Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) is a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae, cultivated for its fruit, known as a peppercorn which contain piperine. Pepper loses flavour and aroma through evaporation, so airtight storage helps preserve its spiciness longer. Pepper can also lose flavour when exposed to light.
It is widely used world-over for soups, salads, seasoning, marinading and to add the spicy flavor to foods.
